Aiming at providing cyber security, the Government launched free anti-virus software for computers and mobiles by way of setting up a malware analysis centre with has been named Cyber Swachhta Kendra (CSK).
Launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology (MEITY), this centre is supposed to work in collaboration with various Internet Service Providers, anti-virus companies, banks and academicians for providing free digital tools to the general public, helping the secure their computers, mobile phones and laptops from virus, worms and other malicious software.
“India is going to take a lead in the digitization process of the world. We have joined the distinguished club of countries that already have malware cleaning systems for the use of its citizens. As of now, we have 13 banks & Internet service providers using this facility. With the expanding digital footprint in the country, I see a surge in start-ups in the area of cyber security by the end of the year,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad, minister of electronics and information technology.
With a mission to enhance the cyber security of Digital India’s IT infrastructure by providing information on botnet/malware threats and suggesting remedial measures, the “Cyber Swachhta Kendra” (Botnet Cleaning and Malware Analysis Centre) is a part of the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). It has been set up for analyzing BOTs/malware characteristics and providing information and enabling citizens for removal of BOTs/malware. In addition, “Cyber Swachhta Kendra” will strive to create awareness among citizens to secure their data, computers, mobile phones and devices such as home routers.
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Quick Heal Technologies and Amrita University are partners in the development of this centre.
To fight malware in USB storage devices, digital solution named USB Pratirodh has been developed, App Samvid for Operating systems and M-Kavach for mobile devices.
